Wellness Programs

Your pet can benefit greatly from regular wellness examinations or checkups. Whether your pet is a youngster, a “senior citizen,” or any age in between, wellness examinations provide an excellent opportunity for us to conduct a thorough physical examination and develop a health profile for your pet. This information will help us identify medical problems and any other issues that can affect your pet’s health and quality of life.

A wellness examination includes an evaluation of all of your pet’s major organ systems.

We’ll use the wellness visit to ask you questions about your pet’s behaviour, appetite, exercise habits, and regular activities at home. This is also an excellent time for us to discuss any routine diagnostic testing that may benefit your pet or to recommend any vaccinations that may be due. If your pet seems healthy, a wellness examination is a good opportunity to note any changes, such as weight gain or loss or other subtle changes that may not be evident at home. Sometimes, information obtained during a wellness examination can help detect early signs of illness and address health issues before they progress.

A wellness examination is also your chance to have us address your questions or concerns about your pet. We welcome your questions. No question is too small or too silly, and it is our pleasure to address your concerns. We strive to help you understand your pet’s health considerations, and we encourage you to be involved in decisions regarding your pet’s health care.

Finally, wellness examinations help us establish a relationship with you and your pet. Through your pet’s physical examinations, other wellness procedures, and our consultations with you, we get to know your pet and learn about his or her lifestyle, personality, health risks, home environment, and other important information. We encourage you to use wellness examinations to take an active role in your pet’s health care

Vaccinations

Immunizations are a crucial part of your pet’s health care. Some immunizations are recommended yearly while others are given every three years. U
sually administered during an annual exam, we work with you to develop an individual vaccine protocol that best suits your pet’s needs.

Micro chipping

Much like vaccinations, microchips can help keep your pet safe. If your pet should ever become lost, their unique microchip identifier will help bring them home safely.

Surgeries

Surgery is an effective way to treat many serious injuries and disorders. We carefully screen your pet prior to surgery to be sure that your pet is a good candidate for anesthesia. We determine the pain management techniques that are appropriate for your pet’s age and current health status prior to surgery. We perform all types of general surgery including soft tissue surgery, Orthopaedic surgery, Ophthalmic surgery, foreign body removal, laceration repair and wound repair.

Dentistry

Dental care is a very important part of keeping your pet healthy. Dental disease is one of the most common health problems in dogs and cats. Most pets over the age of 3 have some form of dental disease. Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet’s teeth. If left untreated, dental disease can lead to severe pain, oral infection and even infections with in your pet’s organ systems.

These digital images are available instantly allowing for a faster and highly accurate diagnosis.

Laboratory- Our in house and referral laboratory allows us to quickly evaluate and diagnose your pet’s health using tests such as routine fecal screenings, urinalysis, heartworm tests, complete blood counts, pre surgical screenings and blood chemistry profiles. Our laboratory also allows us to evaluate and diagnose your pet’s health in an emergency. In a critical situation, our veterinarians can immediately diagnose the problem and work to save your pet’s life with in minutes.

Ultrasound- An ultrasound is a common, noninvasive procedure that produce a three-dimensional image of your pet’s internal organs and can help our veterinarians identify and locate conditions such as tumors, cysts, stones and inflammation. Ultrasound return results in real time.

Export Certification

Travel continues to become more and more complicated, and even more so when traveling with pets. But your pets are part of your family, and you shouldn’t have to leave them behind. Fortunately, High Street Animal Hospital maintains the certification level required to authorize health certificates, so with adequate planning and preparation, your pets can go wherever you may go.

Euthanasia

If your pet’s quality of life begins to diminish due to an illness or condition that is causing significant pain and discomfort, it may be time to discuss gentle euthanasia. Deciding if it’s the right time to euthanize your pet is one of the most difficult decisions a pet owner will have to make. Our staff can guide you during this difficult time by answering your questions and providing advice to help you reach a decision that is best for you, your pet and family.

Pain Management

We believe in maximizing the comfort of your pet during and after his/her surgical procedure as well as during tough times when they are sick. Proper pain management improves your pet’s recovery and speeds the healing process. We use a multi-modal approach to pain management. A multi-modal approach refers to the layered administration of small amounts of different drugs to minimize any pain that your pet might feel during or after the procedure, or during their illness. Because we administer lower doses of each individual drug, your pet will experience fewer adverse side effects, more complete pain relief and faster post-operative recovery.
